The number one question asked by most of our potential customers wishing to launch a website. Although storage space can be easily managed with data housekeeping, bandwidth is somewhat more difficult to deal with, buying too much is just unnecessary but not having enough will make your website unavailable for customers browsing to it.
So how much do you need exactly?
It’s fairly easily to work out, to do this we ask you to estimate the average page size of your site. We can help you work this out if you do not know. We then use this number and multiply by the average number of anticipated page view per visitor. Remember this is just an estimate we usually add a little more to ensure everything runs smoothly and ensures peace of mind should your website be hit by an unexpected heavy traffic.
For an average page size of 50KB, 20,000 visitors per month, and 5 pages per visitor your website will need about 5000MB, or 5GB, of bandwidth per month.
As for web space, this obviously is dependent on the content of your website. On average most sites hosted with us uses around 250 MB of disk space with an average page being around 2-3 MB. You must also factor in email storage as this also counts towards your disk space. For a private individual 5GB disk space is usually adequate. SME with more than 3 email accounts we recommend 10GB and above disk space.
